A Brief Historical Timeline
1974-75: Inaugural season (winter) with 25 teams. Founding mother was Jody Johnston (El Cajon).
1983-84: Moved from winter to the fall partly because girls' soccer was taking too many players.
1984-85: With only 19 teams CIF commissioner Jan Jessop (a former player and coach) says "it'll (field hockey) probably fold in the next two or three years" (after the 1984 Olympic Games).
1998-99: Critical shortage of referees (16), including 6 new referees.
2002-03: Divisional play begins with divisions I and II.
2015-16: Open division play begins (Open, I, II)
