Day two at Torrey Pines included some big-time dunks, overtime and an American Division quarterfinal game.

Local Teams

San Diego ranked # 1 La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, CA) lost to Patrick (Elizabeth, NJ) 66-55 and # 2 ranked Foothills Christian lost to Centennial (Corona, CA) 73-51 in the quarterfinals.  But Foothills was missing Arizona-commit T.J. Leaf ’17 and Nikko Paranada ’16 because of injures.  Host Torrey Pines defeated Bellevue (WA) 65-58 in the opening game of the day.

Los Angeles vs. New York

Brooklyn’s Jefferson played Fairfax of Los Angeles in the quarterfinals and during the warm-ups the chosen song was 2Pac’s California Love, likely not a coincidence.  The west coast prevailed 71-64.

Two Good Endings

Westchester (Los Angeles, CA) made a shot with eight seconds remaining in the game to defeat Cantwell Sacred Heart (Montebello, CA) 44-43.

Windward (Los Angeles, CA) made a 3-ball late to force overtime in which they defeated Loyola (Los Angeles, CA) 66-64 (OT).

Prime Prep Has Five Games in San Diego

Prime Prep (Dallas, TX) will play five games in San Diego this week.  Today, Prime will play Balboa City (San Diego, CA) at the San Diego Jewish Academy at 6 pm.  The Force of Balboa City feature the # 1 ranked sophomore in the nation, DeAndre Ayton ’17.
